After entering the fire service in 1986 as a volunteer firefighter for the Mammoth Lakes (CA) Fire Dept, Greg Wilson hired on as a career FF/Paramedic with North County Fire Protection District in San Diego County in 1990. Greg served as the agency’s EMS Coordinator, grant writer, oversaw numerous capital improvement projects, and negotiated several collective bargaining agreements for the Fallbrook (CA) Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 1622 and Fire Management Association. After rising through the ranks, he retired in late 2019 as a Battalion Chief after a 30-year career.
Greg was elected to the Board of Trustees of the California Firefighters Benefit Trust (CFBT) in 2012. He spent most of 2022 and 2023 representing the CFBT Board of Trustees while working closely with the leadership of the IAFF MERP Board and service providers, developing the provisions to merge CFBT with IAFF MERP. The merger of these Trusts on August 1, 2023 directly resulted in several valuable new plan features benefiting all participants. Greg continues to use his background as a labor negotiator, fire service leader, and experienced Trustee to assist firefighter locals and their employers throughout California and beyond with MERP plan design education and implementation.
